Every Saturday, our vans leave the depot loaded with hot food. This is the story of route seven — and the families waiting at its stops.
Route seven covers fourteen streets and serves just over two hundred meals each Saturday. The volunteers know every stop: the grandmother raising three grandchildren, the night-shift father who sleeps while we knock quietly, the teenagers who pretend they are not hungry until the second helping.
“Saturday lunch is the one appointment my kids never miss.”
Warm food opens doors that paperwork cannot. Over shared meals, families tell us what they really need — a tutor, a clinic referral, help with a bill. The meal is the beginning of the relationship, never the end of it. That is why our drivers carry resource cards alongside the food containers.
